About the courseSettling and cracking exterior concrete stairs and sidewalks are common on many homes. This lesson reviews the proper placement of an exterior concrete stair over a haunch built into the foundation wall. Concrete piers built using tube form and foundations for exterior patios are covered next. Strategies for strengthening exterior concrete follow and include adjusting the bag mix (or PSI rating), adding wire mesh or rebar, adding synthetic fibers, using chemical curing agents, and applying sealers. The common types of concrete finishes are covered in detail. These finishes include broom finish, trowel-pattern finishes, exposed aggregate, concrete stamps, and dyed.
