Finishing the Roof and Sheathing
Course 16

About the course

With roof trusses installed and braced this lesson begins with the installation of rough fascia and fly rafters. A technique for perfectly straight fascia boards is reviewed and several methods for installation of fly rafters on truss roof systems are reviewed. The importance of roof-system ventilation is reviewed in detail. Common problems, such as ice damming, that occur on improperly ventilated roofs are discussed. Placement of sheathing over trusses is covered next along with the proper placement of bracing in a truss system. Bracing for different styles of trusses is also covered. The proper placement of roof sheathing is covered next along with common sheathing problems seen on truss roofs. This includes a discussion of the spaced board sheathing found on older homes. Drywall backing installation is reviewed along with the installation of fireblocking which helps retard the spread of fire.
