About the course
The lesson begins with a discussion of the common types of clay and concrete tiles. Next the lesson provides an inside look at how both tile and concrete shingles are manufactured. This leads to a discussion of cost factors including color, glazing, shipping, specialty tiles, tile grade, and more. Roof framing considerations are also covered. Installation of tile roofs follows including special preparation techniques for different styles. Styles covered include mission tile, S tile, and flat tile. This includes different methods of placing furring strips and the "wet-set" or "mortar-set" method of installation. The use of specialty tile such as ridge tile and booster tile is addressed, as are nails, wind locks, and adhesive.
