HVAC, Part 2
Course 37

About the course

The second of two lessons covering residential heat, vent, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. The lesson begins with a discussion of evaporative coolers and common problems. Humidifiers are covered next, then electrostatic filters and proper HVAC ventilation. Both ventilated and non-ventilated range hoods are covered. The next part of the lesson switches gears to traditional masonry fireplaces. The parts of the fireplace are discussed along with the correct construction that makes the fireplace work correctly. A discussion of the "two-ten" rule and how it helps determine the location of the outside chimney follows. Factory-built fireplaces are covered next. These fireplaces are much more common in new construction than are traditional fireplaces. The real meaning of "zero-clearance" is defined and proper installation techniques are reviewed.
