About the course

A detailed review of vinyl sheet flooring, how it is made, and properly installed begins this lesson. This discussion includes information about vinyl quality, seaming, and underlayment. The wide variety of available underlayment is shown and the importance of proper underlayment installation is reviewed. Common vinyl floor problems and their causes are covered as is the difference between a vinyl floor and a linoleum floor. Wood floors are covered next. A review of the quality and expense of the floor starts this part of the lesson and includes discussion of common wood floor species and wood grading. Wood floor styles such as strip, plank, and parquet are reviewed as well as diagonal, and herringbone installation patterns. The use of sleepers of concrete floors is also covered. Proper wood floor installation is discussed in detail including moisture content, blind nailing, sanding, filling, and finishing. The lesson concludes with a review of stone, brick, and terrazzo floors.
