Composition Shingles
Course 27

About the course

Installed shingles usually bear no marks or other identification that indicates what type they are or who manufactured them. The lesson begins with several steps that can be used to properly identify the shingle's type. Different styles of composition shingles are reviewed including common non-interlocking and interlocking styles. Factors that contribute to the cost of a composition shingle roof are reviewed. Installation of a non-interlocking shingle roof follows, including installation of the starter course, proper nailing of shingles, shingling along valleys and ridges, and the installation of boots and flashing. The lesson concludes with a discussion of the less common interlocking shingle roof system.
