About the course
This lesson begins with a review of how a fire behaves. Understanding fire helps you understand where the fire began and why it went where it did. Smoke damage left behind reveals how hot the fire was and the kind of damage you can expect to see, including hidden damage. The concept of the heat line is shown and discussed. Soot mapping is also reviewed and shown. Next is a discussion of the repair versus replace issues common to fires and some approaches that can be used to determine when a part should be replaced or can be repaired. The importance of considering the effect repairs will have on other structural parts and items in the structure is shown and several examples are reviewed. Key smoke damage and smoke odor issues are discussed as are which items can be cleaned and which must be replaced. The lesson concludes with a review of the proper techniques to use when cleaning smoke.
